Frequently Asked Questions
Any questions?
Find the answers to the questions we often get asked about our guarantee.
Do I have to get council approval for my retaining walls?
In most cases, yes. Retaining walls generally require council approval, especially when they exceed certain height limits or may affect neighbouring properties. At Creative Concrete Jungle, we take care of the entire approval process for you. Our team liaises directly with your local council to ensure all engineering, designs, and documentation meet the required regulations. It’s part of our end-to-end service, giving you peace of mind while your retaining wall is expertly planned and built from start to finish.
What is the maximum height a retaining wall can be without council approval?
In most Riverina council areas, retaining walls over a certain height require approval, typically starting at around 600 mm. The exact limit can vary depending on your local council, site conditions, and whether the wall may impact neighbouring properties. Because requirements differ between regions, it’s always best to confirm before building. Creative Concrete Jungle manages the entire approval process for you, ensuring your retaining wall meets all local regulations and engineering standards.
How deep do retaining wall footings need to be?
Footing depth varies depending on factors such as wall height, soil conditions, and engineering requirements. For concrete sleeper retaining walls, footings are typically dug deep enough to ensure the structure remains stable and compliant with Australian Standards. Because every site is different, a qualified structural engineer determines the exact footing depth for optimal safety and long-term performance. At Creative Concrete Jungle, we handle the full engineering and construction process to ensure your footings are designed and built correctly from the start.
Can you replace an old retaining wall?
Yes. Creative Concrete Jungle can safely remove and replace old, failing, or damaged retaining walls. We assess the condition of your existing structure, manage all demolition and disposal, and construct a new engineered retaining wall that meets current Australian Standards. Replacing an ageing wall is often the safest and most cost-effective solution, especially when the existing wall no longer provides proper structural support.
Do you remove old retaining walls?
Yes. Our team provides full removal and disposal of old retaining walls as part of your project. Using our own excavators, skid steers, and tipper trucks, we can safely demolish and clear the site before constructing your new retaining wall. This ensures a streamlined process from start to finish, without the need for additional contractors.
Do you build retaining walls for new home builds?
Yes. Creative Concrete Jungle works closely with homeowners, builders, and developers on new home builds across the Riverina. We provide all required earthworks, excavation, engineering, council approvals, and construction to deliver a fully compliant retaining wall for your new property. Whether you need boundary retaining walls, cut-and-fill solutions, or tiered designs, our team has the capability to manage the entire project from start to finish.
Do you work with builders, landscapers and developers?

We provide reliable retaining wall construction, earthworks, and excavation services for both residential and commercial projects. Backed by a full fleet of machinery and an experienced team, we can support ongoing partnerships as well as large-scale developments.

Please note that all changes should be made at least 24 hours before the scheduled delivery to ensure we can adjust everything on time.
What if I change my order within 24 hours of the delivery date?
Changes made within 24 hours of your scheduled delivery may incur a re-picking fee. The amount depends on the size and type of the order, with a minimum charge of $100 + GST.
Do I have to be on site to take receipt of my delivery?
No, you don’t need to be on site for your delivery, as long as clear instructions are provided beforehand. Simply let the Creative Concrete Jungle team know where you’d like your materials placed, and our staff will ensure everything is delivered to the specified location.
How will I know when my order is due to arrive on site?
You’ll receive a call from one of our staff the day before your delivery is scheduled. On the day of delivery, we’ll also provide you with an estimated time of arrival (ETA). Please keep in mind that factors such as weather, traffic, and earlier deliveries may affect exact timing, but we always strive to deliver your order as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Can I pick up my sleepers from the factory?
Yes, you’re welcome to pick up your order directly from our factory. Please note that we’re unable to load concrete sleepers onto enclosed trailers, wagons, or vans, so ensure you bring a suitable open vehicle or trailer for safe loading.
Do you have any displays that I can have a look at?
Yes. We have a full display of our concrete sleepers at our manufacturing facility located at 51 Copland St, Kooringal, NSW. You’re welcome to visit anytime during business hours to see our products in person and explore the range.
What sizes are available for your concrete sleepers?
Our standard stock sizes are 1.8m, 2m and 2.35m. However, we can make custom sizes if required. Please call the Creative Concrete Jungle’s office during trading hours on if you require any custom size concrete sleepers.
Do you sell retaining wall steel posts?
Yes. Creative Concrete Jungle supplies a wide range of retaining wall steel posts starting from 100UC. We offer H-beams, C-channels, 90-degree corners, and 45-degree corners, with stock lengths beginning at 900 mm and increasing in 300 mm increments.
All our steel posts comply with the Standards Australia specification AS/NZS 3679.1. If you require custom steel sizes, please contact the Creative Concrete Jungle office on 6939 5200.
Do your concrete sleepers require painting?
No. Concrete sleepers do not require painting, as they are manufactured to be durable and low-maintenance. However, if you prefer a darker or enhanced finish, you can apply a concrete sealant to achieve the desired look.
How long will your concrete sleeper last?
Concrete sleepers are extremely durable and, when properly maintained, can last a lifetime. They’re engineered to withstand weather, soil pressure, and everyday wear, making them a long-term, low-maintenance solution for retaining walls and landscaping projects.
Are your concrete sleepers engineers designed?
Yes. All of our concrete sleepers are professionally engineered to meet Australian Standards, ensuring strength, durability, and long-term performance for retaining walls of various heights and applications.
What is the difference between C & H Channels or posts?
C-channels are typically used at the ends of a retaining wall or anywhere a single sleeper edge needs support. H-channels, on the other hand, are designed to join two sleepers, acting like a double C-channel to connect consecutive sections of the wall. We also supply 45-degree and 90-degree steel posts for corners and angled wall designs.
Why should I spend more on concrete sleepers rather than timber sleepers for my retaining wall?
Concrete sleepers offer many advantages over timber. They come in a wide range of designs and colours—including options that mimic the look of real timber—while providing far superior durability. Unlike timber, concrete sleepers won’t warp, twist, rot, or be affected by termites, and they maintain their appearance over time.
While concrete sleepers may cost more upfront, they are often the more cost-effective choice, especially for higher retaining walls where additional strength is required. In the long run, concrete sleepers are the clear winner—timber retaining walls will eventually need to be replaced, meaning you could end up paying for the same wall twice.
Other Regulations
Other regulations may also need to be considered, such as:
- Minimum distances to neighbouring properties
- Planning scheme overlays (e.g., heritage, flood, acid sulphate soil, etc.)
- Ensuring the retaining wall does not divert water onto a neighbouring property
- Minimum distances to easements, sewerage pipes, and water mains
- Minimum distances to bodies of water such as lakes, dams, creeks, and rivers
- Situations where a retaining wall may be required instead of a fence between properties
- The responsibility of both homeowners to ensure the retaining wall is built in accordance with Australian Standards
“Retaining walls can become a matter of dispute if a neighbor experiences negative impacts from the construction. Issues such as water runoff or other unintended effects may result in a formal complaint to council. If this occurs, the builder of the retaining wall may be required to modify or remove the wall to ensure it does not adversely affect neighbouring properties.”
